As they always say, food brings people together. Since Christmas is just around the corner, where better to meet than at a restaurant or cafe that serves decent and affordable Christmas inspired dishes to add on to the joyous occasion?! Being a foodie myself, I always take pride in choosing the best food venues for meetups because I firmly believe that the key to making my friends happy is through satisfying their stomachs.

This season, Orchard Central has unveiled countless of tenants with a plethora of food choices curated especially for Christmas! Indulge in some Japanese desserts and mains at Maccha House or go forth and pamper yourselves silly with the desserts from Lady M. If you're someone who is leaning towards Western cuisine, why not drown yourselves in the Christmas specials from Dean & Deluca and complete your meal with some ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery? 

Trust me, here at Orchard Central, there is something for everyone. Join me as I bring you through the Orchard Central Food Trail where you can take your pick on your favorite restaurant and where you can possibly celebrate Christmas at!

1) Maccha House


Aptly named, Maccha House serves up a wholesome variety of matcha desserts that is truly a Green Tea haven for all Maccha lovers. Located at the Basement 1 of Orchard Central, it is the ideal spot to unwind and chill with some friends over delicious sweet treats and Japanese mains. All of their desserts and food are freshly prepared in-house so that their clients will get the best dining experiences there. Other than desserts, their menu also encompasses an extensive range of Japanese cuisines, ranging from Ramen, Bento to Japanese Spaghetti. 

For Christmas, Maccha House has launched their special Christmas menu which consists of a Christmas Chirashi Set (S$16.99) and their White Chocolate Maccha Tartlet (S$9.99)



Christmas Chirashi Set (S$16.99) 

The Christmas Chirashi Set consists of Maguro (Tuna) sashimi, Ikura (Salmon) Roe, Avocado, Lady's Finger, Carrot, Egg and Sakura Denbu scattered on a bed of Japanese rice. It is served together with the Chicken Yuzu Soba. The sashimi served was fresh, but my only qualm was that I would have preferred a wider variety of sashimi in my Chirashi Don. The Yuzu Soba was a refreshing change from the soba noodles that I usually have! But I mean, S$16.99 for this is quite a steal!

White Chocolate Maccha Tartlet (S$9.99)

No one leaves Maccha House without getting their hands on some of their signature matcha desserts or drinks. The tartlet is made with matcha custard filling, strawberries and a spiraling tower of white chocolate mousse. It is then complete with a matcha soft serve ice cream which was creamy and dense!

2) Lady M


Lady M is one of THE places I will always visit because I'm a huge fan of their mille crepe cakes as well as its charming interior space. If you're lucky, you can even be seated at the mezannine level with a stunning view of the bustling streets of Orchard Road!

This confectionery from New York keeps its charm in the Orchard Central outlet through adhering to strict design guidelines - white interior furnishings with minimalist decorations for a chic and elegant feel. Using a unique stairway, Lady M divides the space into four separate seating zones with cozy booth seats for couples and those seeking a little privacy to communal dining tables. Other than their specialty cakes, Lady M also houses an all-day-breakfast menu at their Orchard Central outlet.

This Christmas, Lady M presents their customers with two special cakes - a gorgeous Lady Baltimore Cake and the Couronne du Chocolat.




Lady Baltimore - S$9 per slice, SS85 for a 9" whole cake

The Lady Baltimore contains rum-soaked dried fruits and light fluffy sponge cake enriched with smooth and creamy vanilla custard. Waves of meringue frosting are then topped with silver dragees to future enhance its beauty. The cake was soft and decadent - much to our delight and this piece of beauty is definitely a must to kick-start the season of giving. And seriously, who can say no to cakes?!


Couronne de Chocolat - S$7.50 per slice, S$70 for a 9" whole cake

If you're a sucker for chocolate desserts, then keep a look out for the Couronne de Chocolat in the month of November and December 2015! The chocolate sponge cake with alternate layers of chocolate mousse is beautifully graced with a ring of white chocolate shavings, finished with a splendid coat of ganache and chocolate crumbs. One bite into this dense and rich chocolate cake and we were sold. If this still does not entice you, I don't know what will. 



And how could we miss out on their Signature Mille Crepe cake (S$9)?! These paper thin Mille Crepe Cake was the perfect end to our tasting at Lady M.

3) DEAN & DELUCA 


DEAN & DELUCA brands itself as purveyors of fine food and tries their best to source for the freshest and newest food produce from all around the globe to satisfy the needs of their customers. Here at Orchard Central's DEAN & DELUCA, prepare to be spoilt for choice with the variety of ingredients and food products which customers can assemble for the perfect meal - without comprising on any food standards. 




This Christmas, DEAN & DELUCA offers festive hampers which make the perfect gifts for your loved ones or clients! Each DEAN & DELUCA hamper contains items from bespoke wines, pasta sauces to kitchenware which will be perfect for some home cooking this season! From "Beginner Home Cooks" for the cooking amatuers to "DEAN & DELUCA collection" for the food connoisseurs - there's just something for everyone! I would love to gift one of these hampers to my mom too! 

Other than these gift hampers, they're also introducing two Christmas Specials in their menu, mainly the Roasted Angus Beef, Maple Glazed Salmon Fillet, and Gammon Ham - all at S$18 per dish! Each of these mains come with a choice of two sides - Mash potato, Greens, Roasted Pumpkins or Roasted Mushrooms!


Roasted Angus Beef - S$18

The Roasted Angus Beef is marinated with mustard, salt, pepper, lime and rosemary before being roasted for 3 hours. Because of this, customers will not be able to choose the doneness of the beef. Texture wise, it was still acceptable! We enjoyed the sides - especially the potato mash and we couldn't stop mopping it off the plate!


Maple Glazed Salmon Fillet - S$18

This dish was possibly the highlight of our entire food trail. The salmon is marinated with maple before searing it and baking it in the oven. The result? A perfectly pink salmon fillet coated with sweet and savoury maple finish that was divine. This won our hearts at that instant and everyone couldn't stop singing praises about it. This definitely scored a huge thumbs up from us!


Rainbow Log Cake 

Other than their mains, DEAN & DELUCA'S rainbow cake is no stranger to anyone. In lieu of Christmas, they have upped the ante to recreate their signature rainbow cake into a log cake. The best part? Each colour actually represents different flavours! You can either dig into the cake separately to taste the different flavours, or have them as a whole for a fruity finish!

4) Cold Stone Creamery


Again, Cold Stone Creamery is no stranger to anyone. Being one of the most coveted places to go for desserts at Orchard Central, Cold Stone Creamery earned its name by preparing fresh ice cream every day. It also offers a customizable option for patrons to create their bespoke ice cream with their premium ice cream flavours and toppings. Other than ice cream, they also offer signature cakes, shakes and smoothies! 




This Christmas, they have also launched their Christmas Log Cakes that are priced from S$49! 




Other than Christmas Log Cakes, they have also introduced 2 new ice cream flavours just for Christmas - Merry Minty Xmas and the Passionfruit Wonderland. 


Merry Minty Xmas - from S$6

Their Merry Minty Xmas is prepared with Peppermint White Chocolate Ice Cream, Raspberries and Kit Kat - essentially Christmas in your mouth! I shall reserve my comments for this as I'm not a fan of peppermint ice cream, but my friends liked this, apart from it being a little too sweet!


Passionfruit Wonderland - from S$6

The Passionfruit Wonderland is prepared with Passionfruit Mango Ice Cream, Chocolate Shavings and Cranberries. For those who prefer their ice cream to be a little more fruity, you might enjoy this! 


Jolly Holly Chocolate - S$49

This Christmas log cake is power packed with all-things-Chocolate and I'm not even kidding. It is made with Chocolate Ice Cream, Chocolate Shavings, Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Ganache with Decoration. I'm sure that fans of chocolate would love to dive into this right now. And S$49 for this? Seems pretty affordable to me!
