What they're famous for:
All day breakfast, Coffee
Atmosphere: 7/10
Price: 8/10
Food: 8/10
Service: 7/10
We had:
(From Clockwise) Lazy Espresso - $5, Peppermint Hot Chocolate - $4, Hot Chocolate - $4, Vanilla Steamer - $4
The coffee was fragrant and strong. It was pretty good as commented by A, and he has got quite a taste for coffee so it should mean that it's worth a try. :)
The Hot Chocolate encompassed a really strong chocolate-y aftertaste and it was not too sweet. I loved the Vanilla Steamer I had but it sort of reminded me of the Hot Vanilla at Coffee Bean.
Carrot Walnut Cake - $5.50
Didn't exactly find this nice as I felt that I have had better cakes elsewhere. I would still prefer the carrot cake at either Cedele or Group Therapy Cafe.
Sandwich - $8
(Smoked turkey breast, maasdam cheese chutney on sourdough toast)
What really amazed me was that the toast was sweet! Okay, we concluded it was the chutney that added that special tinge of flavor to this sandwich. It was rather unique and definitely appetizing. One downside was just that the portion was a tad too small.
Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon - $12
(Two poached eggs on sourdough toasts, chilli jam, homemade hollandaise sauce, smoked salmon)
This dish needs no introduction. Being an avid fan of eggs, I knew I could not let this go. I immediately fell in love with the Hollandaise sauce and it had this distinct flavor which I could not put my finger on. Yes, it was slightly sour, yet it came with a tinge of sweetness. Had a bite of this with the smoked salmon and I was sold. It's no wonder Penny Uni is famous for their breakfast.
Turkish Eggs - $8
(2 poached eggs on lightly whipped yogurt, topped with homemade spicy Moroccan harissa sauce and oregano leaves, smoked salmon and served with bread)
Eggs and yogurt? That's definitely something new and worth trying. The people here at Penny Uni really do know their stuff, and it's no wonder that all their homemade dishes can taste so good! A knew that he had to order this when he first spotted it on the menu about a week back and we were glad that he did! The rest of us were rather skeptical at first but concluded that this was one of the better dishes we ordered amongst the 4 of us.

Croque Monseur - $12
(Turkey ham topped with gruyere, parmesan, and homemade bechamel sauce, on toasted ciabatta and a spread of mustard)
Forgot to take a shot of this before indulging because we were really famished. You should give this a go if you're a fan of cheese and pastries. Though the portion of this was rather small, I felt that it was just right because you can sick of it easily. Still, it was delicious, just as the other dishes were. I felt that they could have lowered the price on this though.
Service:
Self service. :)
Atmosphere:
The cafe was really packed when we went and we almost could not get seats. This place reminds me of The Plain, and the concept was really similar with its lighting and ambiance. It had this hipster sort of concept which was pretty different from the usual cafes we visited.

Walked down to Ice Cream Chefs afterwards for dessert even though we were stuffed. Ended the night with a good chat with them. Heh, these people always know how to make the day better. :)
Till then!
