Food Review: Habitat Coffee
Address:
233 Upper Thomson Road
What they're famous for:
Truffle Fries, The Shrooms
Atmosphere: 8/10
Food: 7/10
Price: 8/10
Service: 7/10
We had:
Ice Brewed Lemon Tea - $4
This was a tad sweet but it had a refreshing taste overall! I usually crush the lemon bits and then stir it together with the drink for the scent. :)
Iced Chocolate - $5.90
Didn't get to try this, but heard from YL that it wasn't too bad. I'm not a fan of chocolate, but I felt that it was unlike other iced chocolate elsewhere as it had chocolate powder sprinkled on top, so maybe it's worth the try?
The Shrooms - $12
(Poached egg and sauteed mushroom on Brioche Bread topped with homemade Hollandaise sauce)
I really loved this! The eggs were poached really perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was creamy and tasty. The sauteed mushroom was not too salty, and the toast was crispy on the crust but soft on the bread. Do have it while it's hot, as the sauteed mushroom might cause the toast to be a little soggy after a while. :)
The Big Ben - $14
(Scrambled egg & honey baked ham on english fluff, 100gm chicken cheese sausage, oven baked tomato and mini potato pancakes)
I felt that adding the potato pancakes was a really interesting concept and I loved the sauce that accompanied this dish (though I didn't know what it was but it was creamy). However, the potato pancakes tasted more like rosti, rather than hashbrowns and there were nothing special about the scrambled eggs and bacon.
Truffle Fries - $8
Ok, the truffle fries here reminded me of the one I had at Little Diner. The portion wasn't as huge and it wasn't expensive. I did mention in the Little Diner review that it would be perfect that they had a "half-portion" option so that we would be able to finish it, and I think I found the perfect substitute at Habitat Coffee! The truffle fries were as good as the one at Little Diner, if not better. It wasn't oily at all, and the truffle taste was strong even down to the bottom layer of fries. Yum!
Service:
We had to order and pay at the cashier at the same time so there wasn't any service charge. The food was served fast enough though I felt that they were a little too eager when it came to clearing our plates/drinks.
Atmosphere:
Loved how quaint this place was! It was like a hidden gem found at Upper Thomson Road. This cafe had 2 levels, and we were seated upstairs with its exquisite old-school decor. Great for small group gatherings for 2-4 people as the cafe as rather small.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Visited this place on a Sat morn with C, E and YL.
I think many people would be rather surprised on how the four of us ended up hanging out together, and full of "huh? where's the link between them" questions spiraling in their minds. Haha. Well, to clear things up, we've been friends for a rather long time. There were occasions where we bumped into one another and had short conversations after which, so we felt that it would be nice if we could hang out together one day and catch up on the past as well.
We had a great time laughing and sharing about our lives, most of it included the usual "omg-school-is-such-a-downer" conversations. But at the end of the day, we concluded that each and everyone of us still missed YT a hell lot, since most of the topics revolved about the good old times in YT. :')
(A really nice but over-exposed photo. Weh :'()
And that concludes our trip there.
Hope this review helped!
Toodles :)
